July was an exciting and productive month for Two Step Salsa, but there's an opportunity to reach new heights for the son of Petionville when Fully Loaded goes to the post as the probable favorite in the $100,000 Dr. Fager Stakes Saturday at Gulfstream Park. The 2-year-old colt bred by Get Away Farm drew the No. 6 post in a field of 10 set to contest the six-furlong first leg of the colts and geldings division of the Florida Sire Stakes.
Fully Loaded is a perfect 2-for-2 in his initial season, breaking his maiden by three-quarters of a length in his debut, then coming back to score by 7 1/2, both times under Edgard Zayas, who will be back again for Saturdays engagement. The $25,000 OBS October yearling has earned $71,900.
The productive July closed Tuesday with a victory by Sealed With a Kiss in a six-furlong allowance optional claiming race at Fort Erie. The 4-year-old filly sat second most of the way with Krista Carignan, a good four or five lengths behind the pacesetter, then swept by the leader in mid-stretch and won by three-quarters. She's 7-2-1 in 21 starts with earnings of $70,641.
Former stakes-winner Master Mick picked it up yesterday to start off August with a bang, going wire-to-wire in a one-mile starter optional claimer under Hector Berrios. The 5-year-old gelding, owned, trained and bred by long-time horseman Miguel Feliciano, went off at 7/10 and won by 1 1/2 lengths, becoming Two Step Salsa's 43rd winner of 2018. The Ohio-bred is an impressive 6-3-4 in 21 starts with earnings of $182,436.
