Tomater Gator made it two straight wire-to-wire victories at Gulfstream Park yesterday, scoring in a 7-furlong race in which sons of Two Step Salsa finished 1-2. With Emisael Jaramillo aboard, the 3-year-old gelding was never headed, and held off favored Rogue Patriot by 1 3/4 lengths, clocked in an excellent 1:24.25. It was six lengths back to the third-place runner. Tomater Gater, 2-0-1 in five starts, earned $16,000 for the victory and was claimed out of the race by Frank Carl Calabrese, one of the leading owners in the country. Rogue Patriot has finished second in all three of his 2018 starts and has been in the top three in nine of his 10 lifetime tries.
