If Two Step Salsa's followers needed a quick fix, they received it in spades yesterday at Gulfstream Park. With Luis Castillo aboard, Mr. Fixit broke his maiden in his career debut and lit up the tote board in Hallandale Beach to the tune of $80.40, $27.40 and $18.40. The 2-year-old gelding jumped out of the gate from the No. 7 post, opened up a four-length lead after a quarter in :22.80, then continued on to the wire without so much as receiving a serious threat. The margin at the finish was 2 3/4 lengths and Mr. Fixit collected $24,000 of the $40,000 maiden special purse for owner/breeder Lance Colwell. The gelding became the 35th winner and fourth 2-year-old winner for Two Step Salsa this year. The stallion by Petionville has had five winners in the past eight days and is less than $66,000 from the $1 million mark in progeny earnings.
