Breed them to run... Breed them to win

Two Step Salsa Still On Fire - Drill Gets First Winner

The headline from two days ago - "Two Step Report: 7 Winners, 6 Tracks, 14 Days," can now be updated to "8 Winners, 6 Tracks, 16 Days," after Magic Two's victory over the off-track at Gulfstream Park yesterday. Sharing that headline is the exciting news that Get Away Farm's highly-promising freshman stallion - three-time graded stakes-winner Drill - has sired his first winner, the aptly-named Drill Time.

Like Magic Two, Drill's milestone also came at one of the Stronach tracks - Golden Gate Fields - in a $27,785 maiden special at 4 1/2 furlongs. The colt bred in Florida by Jennifer and Gillian Johnson took the lead at the start, flew by the first quarter in :22.32 seconds under Abel Cedillo, and was never headed as he went wire-to-wire in :52.72, scoring by two lengths. The victory was worth $15,600.

Magic Two became the 27th winner of 2018 for Two Step Salsa in a 5-furlong race that came off the grass and switched to the main track. Owned and bred by long-time Florida breeder Lucille Geranis, the 5-year-old mare fought for the early lead, gained command on the turn and won by three-quarters of a length as the 9/10 favorite. Magic Two earned $12,200 for Mrs. Geranis and Two Step Salsa's bank account for the year soared to $689,167.
