Two Step Salsa has long been a leading all-weather track sire in Florida and he enhanced his record last night when What's Her Secret broke her maiden in just her second start at Presque Isle Downs for co-owners Get Away Farm and Endeavor Bloodstock. The filly bred by Get Away became the second 2-year-old winner for her sire in 2018 and the 33rd winner overall.
In her debut on June 5, running as an entry with Endeavor Bloodstock's Elysium for trainer Teresa Connelly, What's Her Secret had to endure a wide trip throughout and wasn't able to turn in her best performance, while her stablemate finished third. Based on Elysium's finish, this time the duo was sent off at even money, but it was What's Her Secret who bailed out the bettors with an impressive wire-to-wire victory under Nathan Vickers. She was in front by two lengths for most of the 5-furlong trip and coasted home by 1 3/4, collecting a check of $8,400.
Earlier in the day, Two Step Salsa added another winner at Gulfstream Park, where Salsa Jack scored his second straight highlighted by a strong ride by Samy Camacho. Despite his maiden victory on June 7, the 3-year-old gelding went off at 20-1 in the "about" 7 1/2-furlong race on the grass. Camacho settled him back in the pack early, then Salsa Jack made a powerful move on the turn and was up to nail 2-1 favorite Just the Facts by a neck at the wire, earning $20,400. Keyed by the pair of winners, plus seconds by Sky Knight at Gulfstream and Pudding at Presque Isle, Two Step Salsa's earnings jumped to $939,585, third best in 2018 among Florida's active sires.
