At Gulfstream West, Sold on Salsa overcame trouble twice in a $40,000 maiden special at 5 1/2 furlongs, and the 2-year-old filly rallied on the rail in deep stretch under Edgard Zayas to prevail by a nose in a three-horse photo. Sold on Salsa collected $24,000 for owners Shade Tree Thoroughbreds and W. K. France while becoming winner No. 46 for her sire this year . . . At Retama Park, stakes-winning Mumbles went wire-to-wire at a flat mile with Ernesto Valdez-Jimenez, paying $7.40 as the second choice and leaving the favorite 5 1/2 lengths behind. The 4-year-old gelding helped send Two Step Salsa's career earnings to $6,992,725 and his 2017 total to $1,469,493. He's been first, second or third in 13 of 17 lifetime starts.
