Ademar Santos is getting quite adept at taking runners by Drill wire-to-wire at Tampa Bay Downs. After Drill's L'il Man led every step of the way to become his sire's fourth winner of 2019 earlier this month, Santos repeated the performance yesterday with Kid Slipper, a 3-year-old gelding bred by Ocala insurance executive Gordon Reiss and his wife, Lindie.
Kid Slipper became winner No. 6 for Drill, breaking his maiden in his fourth try, while never giving anybody else a chance. Santos shot the gelding to the lead and they passed the furlong markers in a quick :21.78, :45.76 and 58 flat en route to a 7 1/4-length score. He was merely coasting at the wire in a final time of 1:04.67 for the 5 1/2 furlongs and added $8,565 to his bank account.
