Fifty was the lucky number for Two Step Salsa and his 2-year-old daughter, Fran's Salsa, at Indiana Grand Race Course yesterday. The Indiana-bred filly became her sire's 50th winner of 2018 when she scored by two lengths in a $33,000 maiden special at 5 1/2 furlongs and lit up the tote board with a payoff of $50.
With Richard Bracho in the irons, Fran's Salsa stumbled at the start but was able to move into a contending position in third place down the backstretch. She went after the leaders turning for home and cruised to the lead in mid-stretch. The victory was worth $19,800 to owner/breeder Rancho Monarca and moved Two Step Salsa into fourth place on the Florida General Sire list. The son of Petionville is less than $6,000 from the $9 million mark in career progeny earnings.
