Homemade Salsa came from last place in a field of 10 to finish third in the $50,000 Cincinnati Trophy Stakes over the all-weather track at Turfway Park last night. The 3-year-old filly had to take the overland route on the turn in the 6 1/2-furlong race, going six wide under Rogelio Miranda, and was closing fastest of all in the last eighth of a mile, in which the daughter of Two Step Salsa made up about seven lengths. At the wire, Homemade Salsa fell just 1 1/4 lengths short, and earned $4,750 for the excellent effort.
Winner of the Juvenile Fillies Turf at Gulfstream West in November, Homemade Salsa is now 2-1-1 in six starts with earnings of $89,075 for owner/breeder Get Away Farm. Two Step Salsa was Florida's leading all-weather track sire in 2017.
