El Salsero Romps to Seven-Length Score

Two Step Salsa's first 2-year-old winner of 2017 was an eye-opener; the Puerto Rican-bred El Salsero romping in his debut at Camarero Race Track in a $16,000 maiden special at 5 1/2 furlongs. Bet down to 7/10 for his debut in a field of seven, El Salsero engaged in a hot three-way pace battle before leaving his two rivals behind and drawing off at the top of the stretch. He opened up by five midway down the lane and with little urging from jockey Erik Ramirez, galloped under the wire seven lengths in front. El Salsero earned $9,280 for the victory at a track that isn't known for its purse structure, and became Two Step Salsa's 28th winner of the year.
