Breed them to run... Breed them to win

Drill's Fourth Winner Is R Prerogative

The most surprising aspect about the smashing victory of R Prerogative at Gulfstream Park yesterday was her price. The 2-year-old filly by Drill had turned in several promising efforts prior to her eye-catching score and she appeared to be a bargain at 9/2 on the tote board. Edgard Zayas put R Prerogative on the lead at the outset of the 5 1/2-furlong maiden special, and the filly bred by Get Away Farm left the field in her dust, winning by 6 1/2 widening lengths and paying $11. She posted fractions of :22.59, :45.94 and :57.68 and finished in an excellent 1:03.97, becoming the fourth winner for her freshman sire. She collected $47,000, raising her total to $64,750.

Two Step Salsa's consistent 3-year-old, Driven By History, celebrated the holiday weekend with a third-place finish in the $100,000 Ontario Jockey Club Stakes at Woodbine. At a price of 18-1, the $5,000 OBS yearling bargain closed strongly in the 6-furlong race that went in a sharp 1:09.52. He sports a record of 4-5-1 in 15 tries with earnings of $150,445.
