Drill has moved into a tie for second place among Florida's freshman sires after picking up his eighth winner via an eye-opening performance by Drill Dancer at Camarero Race Track in Puerto Rico. The $30,000 OBS April 2-year-old had posted a bullet work leading up to her debut in the $11,000 maiden special, and was sent off as the even-money favorite under Juan Diaz.
Drill Dancer was off third in the 7-furlong test, and moved to challenge the leaders after half a mile. She took the lead on the turn and opened up by 3 1/2 lengths in the stretch, then cruised down the lane to score by 12 1/2 widening lengths. The filly bred by Joe and Kris Carroll collected $6,380 for the victory, a good payday in Puerto Rico, increasing Drill's progeny earnings to $407,269.
