Breed them to run... Breed them to win

Drill Filly Rocks After Long Layoff

Richard Averill has enjoyed great success at Florida's tracks for years with runners in his own name and with various partners. Most begin with a lone 'R' as the first letter of the horse's name. Yesterday, it was R Prerogative, who was making her first start in nearly seven months for Averill Racing and CCF Racing Stable at Tampa Bay Downs and it proved to be an eye-opening return - at odds of 3/5. She became the 11th winner for Drill this year.

R Prerogative broke awkwardly out of the gate in the 5 1/2-furlong test, but jockey David Delgado quickly straightened her out and eased her up toward the leaders in the three-path. Coming to the turn, she uncorked a powerful run and swept into the lead, widening it in the stretch and finishing 6 3/4 lengths in front, clocked in a solid 1:04.45. The $10,190 winner's check for the filly bred by Get Away Farm raised her total to $74,940 on a record of 2-1-1 in six starts. Her two victories have come by a combined total of 13 1/4 lengths.
