The love affair between Drill and jockey Ademar Santos at Tampa Bay Downs went to the next level yesterday as the talented rider scored his fourth recent victory aboard a son or daughter of Get Away Farm's second-crop stallion.
Santos guided Drill's L'il Man to a wire-to-wire score for the second straight time. The 3-year-old gelding reached the wire 4 1/4 lengths in front at the end of 6 1/2 furlongs in 1:16.78, while earning a check for $9,590 and missing the track record by just 1.1 seconds. Drill's L'il Man and the two previous winners ridden by Santos are all trained by Gerald Bennett and owned by his Winning Stables, and two of the three were bred by Bennett and his wife, Mary.
The four visits to the winner's circle by Santos aboard Drill's L'il Man, Kid Slipper and Princess Livia were accomplished by a combined total of 17 lengths.
