Two Step Salsa reached another major milestone over the weekend, while boosting his number of winners for the year to 22 and at the same time surpassing $8 million in career progeny earnings.
At Tampa Bay Downs, Extra Salsa scored her second victory at the meeting, with Jose Bracho using an inside trip from well back in the pack to get up at the wire by 1 1/2 lengths. The 4-year-old filly moved up on the rail on the turn, angled out in the stretch and drew off late; she was clocked in 1:37.33 for the one-mile on the grass. The victory was worth $7,080.
Atina Salsa made an impressive career debut at Parx Racing, taking the lead at the first quarter under veteran Jose Ferrer and continuing on in front to get home by 1 1/4 lengths. The 3-year-old filly bred by Get Away Farm was the only first-timer in the race, yet was sent off as the 2-1 favorite, and earned $10,800 for the score.
